THe movie will eithre be "Brick," or "Songs from the Second Floor." Neither are exactly cyberpunk - the former is high-school film noir; the latter, Scandinavian dystopia-ish somethingorether. Both come recommended.
There will be a movie night at my place on Thursday, but I'm not sure what we're going to watch. I have a credit card now, so our options are better.
Review of Unknown Crimes of Insomniacs.

Amusing. Funny dialogue. Fun set. Visual blocking issues. Sympathetic characters. Emotionally relevant. Too short. Good feeling of being there. Too warm. Good vocal work. Conveniently located. You can wander inside the set when it's done.

I really like the theme of people maknig other people do things, and people getting people to make them do things.

It's not playing much longer, so you might want to go see it soon.

Theatre's a funny thing for me. I have the urge to talk to the actors during the play. I also lump the medium in with open mike nights and movies. So a show has to offer something over this very broad (and cheap) competition for me to think of it as worthwhile.

Blade Runner(, food) and Brain-Squeezing - Thursday
So I'm all gung-ho on my business plans, and I like having people over, and I like watching  movies, and I like asking questions, so I'm gonna do something about it... every Wednesday I think.

The trial run went well, so it's gonna be dinner and movie and discussion every Wednesday (Tuesday and Thursday are also an option. I can't remember what works best for y'all) . Show up at 7:00, movie at 8:30, I go to sleep some time a bit after midnight.

"What movies?" you ask.
(this is not a choice, you must ask it... go on, I'm listening through the bugs in your computer)

"Why movies to do with the stupendous neo-reality event which I am concocting: movies to do with cyberpunk, the near-future, film noir, moodyness, Bollywood, colourful costumes and so on." I sagely answer.

"And how does this tie in to your event?" you dutifully ask.

"I'm gonna ask you a bunch of questions about genre, theme, visual elements and what you'd like to see, or would certainly despise, in such an astoundingly magnificent event as I am planning. It should be a lively and humorous conversation." I respond.

So there you go. I think I'm gonna go with Blade Runner next week, but I'm not 100% certain. It might be Tetsuo, or well... I'm not sure, but it won't suck. That's right folks: it won't suck. So I'd appreciate RSVP's, but don't insist on them unless you either want to be a part of the food (if you don't RSVP and don't bring food, there may not be enough to go around), or plan to bring a guest.
Two movies have just come in for me: one is Chinatown, the other is The Big Sleep. Both are film noir. I want to watch them. I've seen Chinatown before. It's a fine, fine movie that I can't sum up exept to say that it doesn't actually take place in Chinatown. The Big Sleep is based on the Raymond Chandler novel of the same name, and it stars Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Wednesday night (the 12th). My place. Show up at 7 [with or without food (containing few or no non-organic animal products)] if you like. If you come early, I may solicit your expert opinions re: my ongoing project. The movie starts at 8:30. Comment to RSVP or express a preference for or over the other.
There will be a movie night at my place this coming Tuesday (the 13th).
We will be watching Snow White: a Tale of Terror, allegedly a more faithful adaptation of the Grimms Brothers' tale, starring Sigourney Weaver and Sam Neill.
The Potluck will start at 7; the movie at 8:30.
I'd appreciate it if you commented before coming, but this is not necessary.
