Before venturing into the land of the damned, I require a protective amulet.

Erk - uh, too much Prehistory of Religions for me!

I should say before I go to Ottawa for the CFS conference, I want to get my ears pierced. I'm looking to do this on Monday.

Any suggestions on where I should go? Where I should avoid?

In any case, my Prehistory of Religion class kicks ass insofar as it takes "an experiential approach to the foundations of human spirituality."

Or, in other words, "assignment due in week 2: talk to a tree. Week 3: find the sacred axis in your house, and report on the closest thing you've had to an ecstatic experience. "

And so on.

I guess you mean earlobes rather than cartilage? Everyone I've talked to has always had great experiences at Sacred Heart - neither of the piercers who I've worked with before are still there, but it doesn't seem to be a crapshoot - they're all good. I've never personally been pierced by Lindsey at Sacred Heart but I've heard good things about her, and I see that she's still there.

I've heard other folks recommend Adrenaline as cheaper and just as good, but I don't have any personal experience with them. All of my few piercings (except the earlobes, which were done when I was 8 at a jewellery store with a gun and took 4 years to heal) were done at Sacred Heart.

(I'm sure you already know this, but just in case - even though it's way cheaper, don't get pierced at a jewellery store or anywhere else that will do it with a gun - not even earlobes!)

That course sounds rad. But I've been called a flake ;-)

Yup. Mine were pierced at a jewellery store with a gun. They healed in only a month or two, but the holes are still annoyingly lopsided.

Not that I wear earrings more than two or three times a year anyhow.

Bah! My ears AND cartilidge were pierced with guns at jewellery stores, and it was cheap and good enough. I got mine done at Merle Norman's, which is actually a spa-like makeup store.

Sure, I was probably lucky, but piercing stores overcharge their simple piercings for the expertise it takes to ram needles through eyebrows and belly buttons and genitals.

Don't do the gun. They're unsterilizable, and therefore carry risks of blood-born infections.

Also, the gun HURTS A LOT MORE than needles. I now re-peirce my earlobes at home.

Sacred Heart is good. Elwood is good. If you can wait till June, he's piercing at BIO by appointment.

yeah. The pain issues is a matter of personal preference. The biohazard is just YUK.

I did peirce Mel's ear for her, and if you haven't found a place to do it, I might have time to do yours. Altho, I'm not as safe or experience etc etc etc.

Every piercing experience I and most people I know have had at Next! has been amazing. I would recommend it.
