When someone hands me their cellphone in a busy restaurant, what I want to hear is "you are on the global frequency," not "your grandmother is on palliative care."

But the alternative is the fantasy of the smart mob: doing. To do; to change. To hear in time, to tell in time, to ask and answer in time is to be able to do... something?

The fantasy is calling the shots. Not necessarily by yourself, but maybe by your collective self.

To be able to control is to change is to choose. What is chosen is yours is sensible and this is part of a just world.

Or something.

At least you could throw control back at the universe. Maybe that would mean something, or maybe it would be worse, but it would be chosen.
