In looking through old photos on Facebook, I am surprised by how many friends are not talking to each-other. Who has broken up; had romance come between them; who has gone stealth; who has felt it right to take a side in a dispute. I'm glad to say that, with a few perhipheral exceptions, usually temporary breaks, or the loss of contact with a co-worker or aquaintance rather than a "friend," this is something foreign to my personal experience. I wonder what currents of social contact I'm missing that create these breaks.

I find that when I stop talking to someone, it's because I'm really sick of their shit and don't believe that I can talk to them.

I've found that with the exception of acquaintances who I've not been very close to, I'm still talking to most of my friends. I've lost touch with a few people, which I regret, but we've grown apart naturally.

I have been very introverted / relationship-centric in recent years, which means I've been even worse at keeping in touch with distant people than usual. "Distant" is defined as someone I don't see at least every 3 months in my day-to-day life. This includes a (former?) friend who lives 10 miles away (last I knew) but doesn't seem to return my intermittent txts / facebook communications anymore.
