This Wednesday we will be watching The Element of Crime, a semi-post-apocalyptic detective yarn by Lars von Trier.
Doors open around 6pm,  movie begins 7:30-8:15.
The entire character of a base and its inhabitants can be absorbed in a quick trip to the Rec Commons. The sweaty arenas of Fort Legion, the glittering gambling halls of Morgan Bank, the sunny lovers' trysts in Gaia's High Garden, or the somber reading rooms of U.N. Headquarters. Even the feeding bay at the Hive gives stark insight into the sleeping demons of Yang's communal utopia.

I like being at SFU: I like the glass-and-concrete buildings that, conjoin into a complex with scores of nooks and gardens. I love being in the cafeteria: all those people sitting and eating or reading or whatever, it's like being surrounded by life.
Contemplating your gender with an air of heavy skepticism...

...is a serious mind-fuck. I recommend it, but with large flashing caveats attached. Not as good or happy as mushrooms, but cheaper, longer-lasting, and more likely to inculde guaranteed life-lessons.

...carries the same sort of purified, draining feeling you get after talking to a counsellor about somethig uncomfortable

...stands akin to the process of grieving: denial, anger, bargaining, despair, acceptance

...is a soul-searching exercise.

...confirms the value of individuality, and allows you to see yourself as a part of larger, mysterious social processes.

...gives you access to the secret genderqueer-radar - I'm not sure how this works, but it does - or at least I think it does. Keep in mind that I'm coming from the perspective of being bloody obvlivious, so maybe I'm just more relaxed now or something.
