The hardest worthwhile things:
3rd changing your life
2nd being yourself
1st trying the above, failing, then getting up and trying again

It happens, again and again for me, because I am not satisfied with the way I am, and I take risks and make changes. The last really big fall was in late October 2005. I'm about due for another one. I hope it will be reasonably gentle. I didn't make probation mostly because I didn't work the office politics correctly. I am now better at office politics. A good thing, since I work in an office.
The big problem I have is that when this happens, somebody makes the mistake of writing me off because of my error, not imagining that someone with the big blindspots I have in some areas could learn a different way, and I don't realize it until there's that big cold-shouldery feeling the next time I talk to them.
