Part of your post reminded me of the stubborness that I had to adopt after deciding to have a vasectomy. I felt that if I showed that I was still considering the matter, even after making a decision, that people (often complete strangers) would try to talk me out of it. And I was right. That stubborness made it difficult to consider new information that came along.
