Aquatic apes

I went to the pool yesterday. I love swimming though I'm never sure what to do in a pool. I should be gathering clams or something I guess.

I was taught how to swim, but not like this. I was taught how to tread water, but not the way I do it. My body, knows what to do and so, I am in my body.

Water's intuitive, a natural grace is found in it. If I'm going to collide with someone, I don't stand aside, I just go under them.

I exhale and sink to the bottom. I strike out with a palm, and a two-thirds of a second later, the surface ripples along my vector. I can flip on my back and twist, switching directions swiftly. I can exhale a little and approach or pass neutral buoyancy, though I can never quite hit it; sinking or rising ever so slowly.

I can grab a paddlebeoard with my feet, hold it under the water and angle it so it's buoyancy fires it up, while it's angle pushes it forward, so when it crests, it flies up and out of the pool to land, suddenly weighty, on the damp concrete.
