I'm setting up a computer on my end and looking over OS and antiviral options. Can anyone could recommend a good antivirus/antispyware suite?

Lavasoft Ad-Aware Personal Edition is a good anti-spyware solution, and it's free. As is Spybot - Search and Destroy.

AVG Antivirus is a good free antivirus software, much better than ClamWin and it doesn't try to own your computer like Norton or McAffee

Antivirus: AVG gets a second vote from me. Avoid pay antiviruses like the plague; those tend to fuck up your network settings when they expire.

Anti-spyware: I use a combination of Spybot, which is a scanner, and SpywareBlaster, which is some sort of active blocker. I haven't had any trouble so far.

I also use a router with a built-in hardware firewall; no complaints so far either. Sometimes it randomly drops my Internet connection, which is annoying, but that's about it.

OS: I use Windows XP Professional Edition at home. It hasn't given me any problems so far. I use Linux Fedora at work and am still feeling my way around, but I would recommend it if you don't want to shell out $$$ for Windows products. It takes a little bit of learning in the beginning but I find nothing wrong with it. It's GUI reminds me of a cross between a Mac and Windows.
